Paola Zamperlin

Actual position: Associate Professor in Geography at the University of Firenze, Italy. Main research interests are: Smart cities, smart communities and smart regions: development and planning dynamics; Cartography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applied to environmental monitoring; cultural heritage; landscape transformations; socio-economic phenomena, etc.; Geography and digital technologies and cyberspace; Geography of the population (historical trends, geographical mobility, immigration flows in Italy and phenomena of territorialization of the immigrant population; Census, conservation, use of cartography of the past, as a source for geo-historical reconstructions, assessment of environmental susceptibility, perception of cultural heritage; International cooperation in projects of local development (sustainable tourism, agriculture, protection and enhancement of cultural heritage); Design and implementation of thematic atlases (Thematic Atlas of Italian Waters; Atlas of Foreign Entrepreneurship in Tuscany; Atlas of Wet Areas in Tuscany); Reconstruction studies of past territorial structures, aimed at enhancing the historical and cultural heritage and the landscape with a view to sustainable and lasting local development, through the use of documentary, iconographic and cartographic sources from the past and travel literature; e-learning and innovation methodologies in teaching.
